Kuber is regarded as the god of wealth, in Hindu mythology. Lord Kubera is also known as the god of yakshas(savage beings). Kubera is always remembered with the goddess of fortune, Lakshmi.
Kubera is known as Dhanapati, ‘Lord of wealth’; Iccha-vasu-‘who has wealth at will’  Yaksha-Raja- ‘king of the yakshas’; Ratna-garbha – ‘womb of jewels’; and also Nara- raja’-lord over men’ for the obvious reasons of wealth. Kubera also called as Kuvera or Kuber is the king of the Yakshas and the lord of wealth in Hindu mythology. He is also known as Dhanapati, the lord of riches. He is one of the Guardians of the directions, representing the Uttar-Disha (North). In Hindu mythology Lord Kuber is represented as the son of Lord Brahma , he is the ruler of the hidden city in the himalayas called Alkapuri, which has all the stored up wealth of the Earth.

Vishnu had to get married again to Laxmi who had been banished to earth by a curse in a complicated story. Since Laxmi, Good Fortune had been away in exile for a while Vishnu was broke! Vishnu had to borrow money from Kuvera to meet the marriage expenses and has entered into a bond to pay interest on the loan till the crack of Doomsday! At the famous Tirupati Balaji temple in India pilgrims are assured that their donations go to working off the Lord’s loan and is therefore spiritually meritorious. This financial piety has made the temple into a billion dollar enterprise, an unusual indication of the prosperity that flows from association with Kubera.
Chanting of Kuber Mantra blesses the worshipper with money and prosperity by drawing new avenues and sources of income and wealth. Mantra of Kubera helps to increase the flow of funds and the ability to accumulate wealth. One, who worships lord Kubera and Lakshmi, can never fall short of money and material comforts.

Auspicious dates to worship Lord Kubera is between Oct 15th to Nov 15th – roughly (Tamil Month Iyppasi).
He faces Northern direction.
His characteristic symbol is the mongoose, often shown vomiting jewels.
He is always represented corpulent and covered with jewels.
His right foot is generally pendant and supported by a lotus-flower on which is a conch shell.
